Nameservers vs DNS Records
Customers often confuse nameservers and DNS records. They serve different purposes and should not be changed interchangeably.
What Nameservers Do
- Tell the internet which DNS provider controls the domain
- Delegate DNS management to a hosting provider
- Control where DNS records are stored
What DNS Records Do
- Control website, email, and service routing
- Point domains to IP addresses
- Authorize email sending and receiving
When to Change Nameservers
- Moving DNS hosting to A7 Host
- Using hosting provider DNS management
- Simplifying domain configuration
When to Change DNS Records
- Pointing a domain to a website
- Configuring email services
- Adding SPF, DKIM, or verification records
Do not change both at the same time unless instructed.
